My name is Alasdair Nottingham (that is me on the right, although I am a little older, fatter and my hair is different these days). I was born in the year 1979 in Dunfermline, Scotland. Sortly thereafter (and I mean shortly) my family relocated to a small village in Hampshire called Cowplain.

I did not enjoy my time at school, I am one of many people who do not subscribe to the old saying "school days are the best days of your life". About the only thing I did like at school was a little known game of Tchoukball, although since leaving school I have not played it still holds a special place in my heart.

I escaped from Cowplain when I went to university just 25 miles down the road at the University of Southampton. I read Computer Science at the then Department of Electronics and Computer Science. It was a real honour to be asked back in 2006 to give a lecture for the department.

After university I went to work for IBM. at the Hursley location where I have been ever since.

While working for IBM I have been involved in developing WebSphere Application Server starting at v5 through to 6.1. I started out as a developer working on integrating JMS and MDB's into the application server. After that support was released I went to work on the service integration bus where I was involved in the design and development of the message mediation support. More recently I have been responsible for the architecture and design of the security functions of the service integration bus (which is a real mouthful).

In my spare time I swim, hack (in that I play with computer stuff, not try to break into remote systems), go for walks on Southampton Common, watch movies, play video games, and read. Whenever I can I like to go traveling, my most recent trips were to Naples (which I didn't like) and Hawaii (which I loved). The photo's can be found on picassa.
